Responsibilities

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Performance QA Engineer to help ensure our platform is fast, scalable and reliable under real-world load. In this role you will design and build performance tests using Grafana k6, establish the baselines and thresholds that define acceptable performance, and use our Grafana observability stack to explain why a system behaves the way it does.

You will work closely with engineers, product managers and DevOps to embed performance into the development lifecycle — contributing to shared standards, integrating performance checks into CI/CD, and giving teams an evidence-based view of release readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain performance test suites using Grafana k6, covering load, stress and benchmark scenarios.

  • Define thresholds and performance baselines from business and operational goals and detect regressions against those baselines.

  • Contribute to test strategies, test plans and acceptance criteria alongside developers and product teams.

  • Analyze results using the Grafana observability stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir) — correlating metrics, logs and traces to identify bottlenecks and reach root cause.

  • Build and maintain Grafana dashboards and alerts for performance signals.

  • Integrate performance tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) so performance signal arrives early and is trusted.

  • Create and execute manual and automated test cases where necessary to validate behavior under load.

  • Identify, document and track defects, and follow through to timely resolution.

  • Own test data management and environment setup for performance runs.

  • Report performance status, risks and actionable recommendations clearly to engineering peers and stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the team's shared standards, scaffolds and playbooks, and advocate for performance as a first-class quality attribute.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in software testing, QA engineering or performance engineering.

  • Hands-on experience with performance and load testing using Grafana k6, JMeter or similar.

  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language — JavaScript / TypeScript preferred (k6's scripting language).

  • Experience testing web applications and APIs (UI, API, integration).

  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus and the ability to interpret metrics, logs and traces.

  • Understanding of HTTP/REST and distributed or microservice architectures, and how they behave under load.

  • Solid understanding of software QA methodologies, tools and processes.

  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).

  • Strong analytical, debugging and problem-solving skills, with clear written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed load testing on Kubernetes (k6 Operator) or Grafana Cloud k6.

  • Familiarity with xk6 extensions and protocols beyond HTTP (gRPC, WebSockets, message queues).

  • Understanding of containerization (Docker) and cloud environments.

  • Exposure to frontend/web performance — Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), Lighthouse and performance budgets.

  • Experience with functional test automation (e.g. Playwright) and REST API testing tools.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows, which the Performance Engineering team actively uses.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
